My Personal Experience with Wine

For my first post, I would like to share my personal experiences with wine. Unfortunately, I have only had wine a few times and initially didn't have much of a taste for it. One of my first times having wine was after a ski trip with my grandpa. He goes skiing every week during the winter with a ski club and then they drink wine and eat cheese on the bus ride home. Now on these trips, the wine they drink is usally CHEAP wine (Charles Shaw $3.99 a bottle) or something of similar quality. I didn't  care very much for this wine, but am curious how smoother wines taste. I have tried a few other wines and there have been a few I didn't mind, but I still have experience with such a small sample size which I'd like to change.

During this class I am most looking forward to trying different types of wine and seeing which ones I like the most. I want to know my interests of different varieties of wine, not just whether I like red or white wines. I'm also very interested to see how wines from different parts of the world taste differently. Most of the wine I have tried has been from the United States (California, New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia). After graduation I am going out to Oregon and the Willamette Valley so I hope to use my skills learned from this class to appreciate some of the wines grown out there.

Although I have limited wine tasting experience, I have tried numerous beers and until now have preferred the taste of beer over wine. My favorite types of beer are IPAs and other ales but I do like most types. On my list of wines to try first are Pinot Noir, Savignon Blanc and Savignon Franc due to my interest in IPA's savory yet complex finish. I'm very excited to broaden my interests and hope to use the skills from this class for the rest of my life drinking wine.
